Parker Wants To Go Underground
The State Government has recently announced that it will not proceed with a pedestrian underpass, under the soon to be re-built and expanded Revesby railway station. Instead there will be a complicated layer of lifts, ramps and stairs.
Clr. Parker moved a motion at the end of March 2003 “That Council request the State Government to review its decision not to proceed with the pedestrian underpass at Revesby Railway Station as part of the recently proposed State Rail upgrade.”
“It was reported back that it would not be feasible to have pedestrian access underground because of a large gas main. Since this report, a new report has replaced this information and advises that it can be done, with a simple bend in the walkway.” Clr. Parker commented.
Clr. Parker argues a number of reasons why the State Government should change its mind. “It opens both sides of Revesby to each other on a flat level, making it much easier for elderly people, disabled people and people with prams to access facilities on both sides, whether it be the tax rank on the south side, or Woolworths on the northern side.”
“Furthermore, the Revesby Workers Club itself, would benefit substantially from this access. Events such as the long established River Road Festival and the promising Revesby Wine Tasting Festival would also be enhanced with this facility.”
