High Unit Density Equals High Units Of Waste
Clr. Parker recently moved at a Council to initiate special waste collection services to clean up dumped rubbish in unit areas of Bansktown.
Clr. Parker’s motion which was passed moved “That the Council provide special weekly waste patrols in all Unit areas to locate and remove any unwanted furniture and waste which has been dumped often by former residents who may have recently vacated their units. Typical examples can be found in the unit areas adjacent to Bankstown Oval.”
"The rubbish is typically unwanted furniture, broken lounge suites, whitegoods and mattresses left behind by tenants who are leaving their unit. It has been unfortunate that areas in such streets off Macauley Avenue adjacent to Bankstown Oval have been littered like this. Many people who come to Bankstown for a sporting event once every year, or maybe every decade would have been left with this impression of our city”.
“Council are now trialling a weekly patrol and clean up in another area of Bankstown. They have found that the mountain of rubbish is increasing, because potential dumpers know that it will soon be removed. Council will trial other initiatives including targeting the dumpers themselves and possibly work with the Rental Bond Board to withold a portion of their bond, until a clearance is given."
