Bankstown Life Education Closes
Bankstown Life Education was formally closed on 30 June 2002. The balance of the money in the account was donated to Whitehall Children's Home, Revesby.
"We donated $22, 000 in cash to the Whitehall Children's Home, Revesby, and gave them one of the former Life Education vans." Clr. Parker stated.
The Bankstown Life Education Centre suffered when the State Government transferred its subsidies from the Health Department to the Education Department. In addition, there were significant rises in the award rates for our staff - mainly the teachers.
"With a 35% increase forecasts for the coming year, our own research clearly showed that the charges could not passed onto the students, and that with a drastic decline in numbers, the total revenue would have been much less, even though we would be charging more." Clr. Parker commented.
"In addition to this, the State Government has centred its training through the schools themselves, and by ensuring that all new trainee teachers are trained in drug awareness. I feel that the Life Education system served a wonderful purpose, in that it made the area of teaching young children the disastrous effects of drug use, and what they can do one's body, before the children reach adolesence." Clr. Parker concluded.
