New Electoral Boundaries: A touch of Gerrymander with South Ward entering Bankstown CBD
Clr. Parker has found the new Electoral Redistribution in the Bankstown Local Government area ludicrous.
"The new Electoral Boundaries devised for the forthcoming 2003 Elections during my absence stink of a touch of the Gerrymader."
"It is very difficult to believe that streets like Park Road, East Hills and Marco Avenue Revesby and surrounding streets were not included to make up the extra numbers in South Ward - when instead streets as far up towards Bankstown's CBD as Macauley Avenue, Bankstown."
The relocation of the South Ward boundaries encroaches into East Ward, and now travels north along Chapel Road South up to Macauley Avenue, Bankstown (the road which is the southern border of Bankstown Memorial Oval). The new area then goes east across to Stacey Street and back down south to Canterbury Road.
Clr. Parker said "It is hard to see the relationship to the South of Bankstown. It is nothing more than a political gerrymander to try and give an advantage to the local ALP at the next Council Elections in 2003."
