Revesby Pool Funding: The True Figures
The recent Bankstown City Council Community Report ran a story about the heating of Revesby Pool' The Story presented photos of the local Labor Party Elite. The photo is near identical to one of Clr. Parker in his Election brochure for 1999.
The article credited the Revesby Worker's Club for contributing $100, 000 to the project abd for the Department of Sport and Recreation funding $15, 000. Most readers would think that the project was paid for entirely by these entities, with the impression being ratepayers would not have this without their intervention.
In an attempt to be very generous to the State Labor Government and the Revesby Worker's Club, the author/s forgot to mention the huge contribution made by the Council itself.
The capital cost of heating the pool and other works was $277,495 with Revesby Workers providing $50, 000 to date and Department of Sport and Recreation a mere $15, 0000. Council funded the remainder. In addition, Council contributes $186, 000 annually to run the Pool. This is ongoing paid for by the ratepayers themselves.
"The local Labor Party are masters at pretending a project which people paid for mostly themselves, was in fact a gift from Labor Party Elite." Clr. Parker commented.
"In fact, as per the Stromborg's Sudden Interest in Grafitti story, the Labor Party have proven bankrupt in their own ideas and policy initiatives for the Community. the sad feature of this story, is that way back on 20 July 1999 I announced in 50m Revesby Pool to be heated a commitment to ensure that this would happen in my next term as Councillor, and it was around this time, that the local Labor Party wanted to actually close the Pool down!"
