Local ALP plays Scrooge with Libraries
The recent introduction of the Library Reservation charges has brought several complaints from young families, and elderly people who are regular users of the library.
Clr. Parker says "These are the people who can least afford such charges. To them the resources are essential as many do not have the Internet at home, or are able to purchase expensive books which their local library does not have. Furthermore, many cannot get around to visit the other libraries in the City."
Clr. Parker initially asked Council to review their policy on this and this was done, but with the report recommending the charges remain.
He then moved in a Council meeting that the charge be a deposit on books and if they were not picked up within seven days the deposit would be kept. The local ALP councillors are determined to keep this charge and disadvantage the people who want to utilise the resources.
Clr. Parker is determined to continue to campaign against this unjust charge.
