Daryl Melham Quits:
Jumps from Front Bench

Click for larger photo The shock resignation sent shockwaves through the federal arena, with many speculating on what this means. A local ALP source very close to the Parker camp, has conceeded that the local ALP is extremely worried about the seat of Banks - once a stronghold for the Labor party. Perhaps this portfolio was not of great assistance in holding the seat. The source confirmed today the news that another ALP MP had commented that getting Aboriginal Affairs was like cleaning the toilets. Clr Parker commented "This is a job, that nobody in the ALP seemed to want, especially MPs who are now begining to worry that Mr Beazley's negative leadership, over the GST and many other issues is beginning to make the ALP look weak at the next election." "I welcome his return as a backbencher. After four years, his policy cupboard was completely bare, so he was producing very little there. I think now, Mr Melham will hopefully be concentrating on his local area and local people." Clr Parker commented. In other federal news, the ALP source claims that Mr Mark Latham is only a handful of votes away from dislodging Mr Beazley as the ALP leader. Mr Beazley is now on notice to perform, or he will be rolled.
