Clr McLaughlin snubs the South!

Wednesday 12 July 2000

Councillor Dick McLaughlin has snubbed residents of his own South Ward in a stunning move.

Bankstown City Council is borrowing an extra 10 million more than the usual 12 million. This is a total of 22 million to be spent on roads and asset maintenance over the next three years.

"This is a very necessary action which was mooted by Clr Barrett and my self at working party many months ago as a way to protect our flagging infrastructure." Clr. Parker said.

"The roads section funding leans very heavily towards West Ward and East Ward, yet local Councillor Dick McLaughlin has astonishingly voted against restoring the funds to his own ward!" Clr Parker continued. "I have the numbers to prove that South Ward is only receiving 12.5% of the road funding proposed expenditure over the next 3 years. It looks like a case of pork barreling by now Mayor Clr Stromborg and Next to be Mayor Clr Hill representing West and East Ward respectively." Clr Parker concluded.

Out of the road for 2000-3 total of $15.682.000, South Ward will only receive $1, 952, 000. This is minimum of $2, 000, 000 short.

Clr. Parker moved to reinstate the shortfall. He was supported only by one other Clr, Lyn Abrahams.

Clr Mc Laughlin Voted against restoring the funds to his own Ward.
