The Parker Family

Ernest and Myra Parker

Ernest and Myra Parker

Max Parker's grandparents, Ernest and Myra, settled on a farm in Padstow about 80 years ago, in Ryan Road. The street Parmal Avenue is named after Parker and Malouf - whose farms joined each other at this point.

Ernest was a soldier in World War I, serving in Gallipoli and on the Western Front. Sadly, he was gassed and developed respiratory problems. He was instrumental in establishing the nearby Padstow Park Progress Hall.

They had five children: Eddie, Jean, Gordon, Doug and Ray. About 1939, Myra established a butcher shop at Padstow (the first shop in Padstow) and taught all the boys to be butchers.

Gordon Parker

The late Gordon Parker

Gordon Parker, Max's father, was born in 1925. He married Maisie Smith and they settled in Padstow and Revesby, and the following years had three children: Max, Lorraine and Ron.

Gordon was an advocate for the people. He was first elected to Council in the 1960s. Representing both South ward, then later West ward, Gordon worked on many initiatives which included: Salt Pan Creek walkway (with Pat Rogan), swimming pools, Revesby YMCA, baby health care centres, senior citizens centres and more.

Gordon's pinnacle was being elected Mayor of Bankstown in 1984. Sadly, he died in office in 1985.

Both Gordon (West ward) and Max (South ward) were serving at the same time as Councillors, making Bankstown history. Max was subsequently, elected Mayor, by fellow Councillors to finish Gordon's term.

Parkers Today

Maisie and Ron Parker are still active in the family handbag shop and the footwear business.

Max was married in 1969 to Jan, they have two sons: Scott and Todd.

Todd is now married himself to Myla and they have two children: Sean and Ashley.
